Everyone, at one point or another, has been worried about how safe their luggage and its contents are. Because theft is extremely common, it is crucial that you protect your belongings. Isn’t that the reason that we have locks for our luggage? Yes. However, if your luggage is spot checked by airport security, they may very well cut the lock right off your luggage, thus leaving it unlocked and vulnerable for the rest of the trip. After searching your luggage, they can relock it using the same TSA luggage locks that were there originally on your luggage. You will know by the security window on the lock, that will either be colored red or green, whether someone has had access to the contents of your luggage.
Green indicates that the lock has not been opened or tampered with, while red indicates that the lock has been opened, even though it may have been relocked. This feature will alert you to the fact that airport security has rummaged through your bag. It’s good to know that, should airport security have to search your bag; although, they should leave a paper notification in your bag to let you know that they had searched it. Logically, TSA luggage locks are the only kind of locks that should be used when traveling.
